HANDS RESIST HIM

By the door that stands between dreaming and waking stood a little boy and his guide, a living doll. They were alone apart from the many hands reaching out to the glass in the doorway, tapping their long white fingers against it. Nobody knew how long they had been waiting there, or why. All they knew was that the little boy's eyes were filled with rage and determination, and that the doll girl had no eyes at all, only empty black voids with which to peer into the depths of her strange land.

The little boy looked at the groping hands and said that he would send them away so that they couldn't drag him back from his dreams. He tried his hardest but they refused to leave. ' Hands resist him,' the doll girl whispered, her tiny fingers gripping a prized object tight. 'We cannot leave this border. We cannot wake, yet we cannot dream. This is our curse.' But one day a sleeping artist stumbled across them both and felt pity for their torment. As a child he too had become trapped yet had escaped from this peril.

And so he created a painting of the boy and his guide so that their souls could slip out of the canvas to the land of the Awoken. They remain here still, glaring out of their painting in an effort to leave their prison, burning with jealousy as they look upon the happy people . And so beware, for the boy has become cruel and aggressive with age, and the little guide harbours hate for her charge and resists him. . .

Don't worry, I made up the story, but the painting is real and is also apparently haunted. But I can neither prove nor dismiss this claim. I'll leave it to you to decide the truth about the Hands Resist Him. . . Copyright Gothprincess 4th September 2008
